Waxing on your period
- This is very common and totally fine! I just ask that the area is clean and a fresh tampon is put in before the service.
- The week before the period can increase sensitivity significantly.
Wax tips for optimal results
- Minimum of three weeks grow out after the last shave.
- For the ideal body wax results, re-book at 5 weeks, this gets all 3/3 cycles of hair, giving you 7-10 days completely hair-free afterwards. 4 weeks is OK, but will only get 2/3 hair cycles, meaning the 3rd cycle of hair will come in within a few days of waxing. 4 weeks is ideal re-book time for face and underarms.
- Use a trimmer with 3mm guard if the hair is longer than an inch for a more comfortable wax, this is a great maintenance trick for in between waxes if the hair feels uncomfortably long. It will still be the perfect length for waxing. (Optional)
- Always exfoliate in the opposite direction of hair growth, for the Brazilian, gently buff the area in the shape of a butterfly. (Up and out towards the hips on the upper part of the V, and down and out towards the butt cheeks on the lower half of the V.)
- Exfoliate and hydrate regularly, especially the day or night before your wax service. When the skin starts to feel bumpy or sensitive, it’s the hair trying to push its way through the skin, that is an essential time to exfoliate and hydrate.
Aftercare tools/recommendations
Exfoliation
Salux body exfoliating cloth: A must-have staple for maintenance. Start using two days after the wax, use daily with body wash of your choice, this simultaneously deep cleans and gently exfoliates daily in one easy step. *This is my secret weapon against ingrown hairs!* Rinse well and hang dry. Machine washable. Replace every 6 months or so!
Acure Inter-gly-lactic exfoliating cream: Great instant gratification treatment for problem areas in the Underarms, Bikini area, & for a glowing facial complexion. Wait 3 days to use after your wax. Use 1x/week with a wet sponge this helps prevent new ingrown hairs while gently eliminating any existing ingrown hairs and/or pigmentation from old ones. *This product can be found at Sprouts Market, Target, QFC, other local retailers, and online.
Vitamin C & AHA Body scrub: This is ideal for stubborn larger areas like the butt cheeks, legs, arms, chest & back and pairs excellent with the Salux cloth. For best results shut the water off, apply to cloth and gently buff from the neck down and rinse 1-2/week.
Moisturizer
Be sure to hydrate that skin a few times a week for best results. You don’t need anything special but your moisturizer should be free of fragrances or dyes. Most effective applied after your shower with wet skin! Your moisturizer will distribute and absorb into the skin better, using less product.
What to avoid for 24 hours after your wax:
- Sexual intercourse.
- Baths or excessively hot showers.
- Direct sunlight, sunbathing or artificial tanning. No tanning less than 48 hours prior to waxing as well.
- Saunas or steam baths.
- Swimming.
- Tight or non-breathing clothes: let the skin breathe.
- Perfumed products on the skin.
- Touching the area: the empty follicles are susceptible to bacteria and need some time to settle down and close.
- Oil-based or tanning products.
- Products with Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) which may irritate waxed skin.
